About this register
What this site is, who runs it, and what it will not do.
Merchant shipping's carbon emissions are public information. They are also published as annual spreadsheets, one per reporting period, which makes any question about a single ship over time a research project rather than a lookup.
This site is that lookup. 24,129 vessels, one page each, with every reporting year the ship has on record, the particulars that make the numbers legible, and the comparisons that make them meaningful.
What it is not
It is not a live tracking service. It does not show where ships are now, and adding that is not the plan. It is not a campaigning site: figures are reproduced as reported, including where they are unflattering to nobody in particular.
It does not sell access, and there is nothing behind a login.
How it is maintained
The register is rebuilt when a new MRV reporting period is published, which happens annually, and when the open sources behind vessel particulars are refreshed. Every page states the date it was built.
Errors in reproduction get fixed. Errors in the source registers have to be fixed at the source, and the corrections page explains the difference.
