Something wrong on a page? What we can fix, and what we cannot.

What we can fix

Anything we have got wrong in reproducing a source: a figure attached to the wrong vessel, a mangled name, a flag derived incorrectly, a photograph credited to the wrong author, a page that says a ship is unranked when the source ranks it. These are our errors and we will correct them.

What we cannot fix

The figures themselves. If a vessel's emissions return contains an error, that error lives in the European Commission's published dataset, and it will reappear at the next rebuild whatever we do here. The same applies to sanctions listings, which are reproduced from the issuing authority's published register, and to inspection records held by the United States Coast Guard.

Corrections to those must go to the body that publishes them. We would rather tell you that plainly than quietly patch a number and present a register that no longer matches its source.

Vessel particulars

Tonnage, build year, builder and photographs come from Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, which anyone can edit. If a particular is wrong there, correcting it at the source fixes it for every downstream user, including this site at its next rebuild.

Photographs

If you hold rights in an image displayed here and the licence shown is wrong, or you believe the file was uploaded to Commons without your permission, tell us and it will be removed while the licence is checked. We display only files whose metadata states a reusable licence, but metadata can be wrong.
